Roof Coating Systems
Our Services
With any of our coatings, membrane TPO, PVC, acrylic or silicone, you can extend the life of your roof and maintain better temperatures inside your building.
Our coating process begins with prepping the area. With metal roofs, this entails pressure washing the roof, coating and protecting the seams. This is to prevent any gaps from forming, which could trap water and cause the metal roof to deteriorate quicker. It only makes sense to safeguard your investment with a coating from Shield Coatings and Foam! Give us a call today for your free quote.
Coating Systems
Acrylic Coatings
Developed to protect urethane foam applications from dangerous ultraviolet rays, these coatings are used on a large amount of various roof membrane systems. Acrylic coatings are extremely durable and provide strong resistance to radiation and hail. They’re also extremely effective at reducing surface temperature. Studies have shown that acrylic coatings can reduce surface temperatures by as much as 20 °F when exposed to direct sunlight at 85 °F. Because acrylic coatings are flexible, they can withstand movement and inevitable changes in roof systems, making acrylic coatings a great option.
The application of acrylic coatings is very weather-dependent and cure times are best with warm temperatures and low humidity. The application requires ambient temperatures above 50°F. These coatings are very economical, provide excellent reflectivity, and are easy to work with; however, they can be affected by weathering and pooling water.
Acrylic coatings can be applied in one or more coats and are made of 100% acrylic. The majority of manufacturers base their warranties on coverage rates; extended warranties call for more coverage. Today, a number of acrylic coating producers provide materials with an instant set time. This shortens the acrylic coating’s cure period to a few minutes, eliminating the chance of coating run-off if it rains right after application.
Silicone Coatings
Created with a 100% concentration of silicone, this coating is highly elastic, sticks to the surface almost immediately, and stays. It is one of the most popular roof coatings available, and its popularity over recent years has only increased when it was discovered that it has incredibly strong resistance to water and moisture. It is nearly unparalleled in effectiveness in today’s market. These coatings are available in a variety of colors, provide high reflectivity, high emissivity, excellent ultraviolet protection in extreme temperatures and harsh environments, and can resist oxidation.
Polyurethane Coatings
Used as coating applications for a variety of roofs, of any shape, type, and size, polyurethane is known for being one of the strongest and most resistant coatings available and is very impact resistant. There are two types of polyurethane roof coatings: aromatic and aliphatic, and they are typically used as a base coat and top coat. While the base coat is durable, it does not resist UV rays, but the top coat is resistant to UV, stays clean, and holds color longer than other coatings.
Fluid-Applied Asphaltic Rubber Membrane System
Fluid-applied roofing membranes are durable, fabric-reinforced systems that provide seamless and robust waterproofing protection coating systems for your roof. The asphaltic rubber material is both waterproof and weatherproof due to the excellent properties of the base materials. This system can be applied in cold-process fluid-applied applications. This gives a fully adhered monolithic, seamless, rubber membrane. This coating system results in a long-term, cost-effective option.
Advantages
Extending Roof Life
Roof coating systems are a great way to get more life out of your current roof. The average life of a roof is approximately 20 years. But with the correct roof coating system applied by a professional crew, your current roof’s life can be significantly extended, leaks can be resolved, and maintenance can be reduced.
Reduce Energy Cost
Roof coating systems are a great way to reduce the energy costs of your buildings. Dark roofs absorb much more solar energy than white roof coating systems which can reflect 80-90% UV rays. This will result in much less load on your HVAC system, cooler roof temperatures, and better ambient conditions within buildings.
Improves Sustainability
Roof coating systems are a great environmentally friendly solution. Roof coating systems allow you to utilize your current roof and will eliminate the need to dispose of old roof materials.
Environmentally Friendly
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building certification program which is used throughout the world. Many roof coating systems are helpful in this regard as many of the coating systems are developed with little to no VOCs. This may help with qualifying your building for LEED certification.
